Joni Wilm: Bio

Joni Wilm

Born in Alaska, Joni started singing and performing in gradeschool and continued on through college studying mostly classical operatic styles. After a brief move to Portland Oregon and an even briefer stint in an all vocal jazz band called"The Pieholes", Joni moved back to Alaska and was inspired to start writing and singing her own songs.

Delving into other styles of music including jazz, acoustic folk and rock, Joni began performing at venues around Alaska and was a favorite at such festivals as the ANILCA anniversary where she and other artists joined to open for Emmylou Harris. Joni also performed as part of the bluegrass band, Homespun, a trio featuring Deb Wessler and Terri Brown.

Joni's voice is pure and unmistakable, soaring effortlessly high and filled with a warm rich quality that engages the listening ear. Her voice encompasses a wide range of musicality that allows her to marry the elements of jazz, folk, blues and soul in a unique and remarkable way.

Never far from her roots as a child of the arctic, Joni continues to sing, write and play in Seattle where she is attending graduate school and reflecting on the art of living in city a bit bigger than Anchorage.
